Jewish Hartford

Let’s face it…New England, and specifically Hartford, aren’t the first places that people think about when they’re looking for a rich and vibrant Jewish community…but they should!

An Active and Thriving Community

The Greater Hartford’ Jewish community is bigger than you probably think, it’s active, thriving and literally has something for everyone. Here are some favorites from our staff and community

Mandell JCC

The center of Jewish happenings around town. They offer year-round activities, sports, and family-friendly programming for all ages.

Teen Programming

Middle & High School kids don’t have to look far for dynamic activities or groups to get involved with…Jewish Teen Learning Connection (JTConnect), United Synagogue Youth (USY), BBYO, NFTY, NCSY and more!

Jewish Day Schools

Solomon Schechter Day School and the New England Jewish Academy (NEJA) provide excellent curriculums and encouraging environments for their students. A perfect blend of Judaism and Learning!

Summer Camps

The area is host to a number of Jewish day and sleepaway camps:

Camp Shalom

Located in the woods along the scenic Farmington River, Camp Shalom provides your children with the authentic summer camp experience and memories that last a lifetime.

Camp Laurelwood

Founded in 1937 on 140 magnificent wooded acres, Camp Laurelwood is the home of life-long memories and friendships you’ve always dreamed of for your child.

Camp Gan Izzy

Home to the happiest campers in all of Hartford! Friends, fun, field trips, and more. A Gan Izzy summer is like no other – jam packed with awesome activities and overflowing with Jewish pride!

Camp Ramah

Our co-ed summer camp program welcomes children from New England to Virginia. For over 60 years, our overnight campers have been immersed in joyful Jewish living.

Crane Lake Camp

Crane Lake Camp, a URJ camp, is rooted in a long history and rich traditions. A second home to 350 children each session, campers come together to experience the fun and magic of Jewish camping.

Eisner Camp

From the youngest campers to the oldest Machon (Counselors-in-Training), every child who spends a summer at Eisner Camp returns home wiser, more self-confident, and more connected to the Jewish community.

If you’re thinking of moving to the Hartford area and want to plan a weekend to check things out…let us show you around!

Shalom Hartford

A fun name…but not that descriptive. Shalom Hartford is both a service we offer, and a Welcome to Hartford gift for you. Once you’ve moved to the area, we would love the opportunity to sit down with you or take you out for a cup of coffee so we can give you all the information that you’ll need on all things Jewish in the area. Your Shalom Hartford welcome bag will have a beautiful challah cover, a trial membership to the JCC, a year’s membership at a local synagogue, a gift card to our local kosher supermarket, some tasty babka…and even more!
